Who could have imagined that counting by 10s would be so much fun? This morning, teachers from Kindergarten through 2nd Grade participated in the first Abacus Math training offered at Posnack. We were introduced to the Soroban (Japanese Abacus), learned proper finger movements, place value recognition, and addition using the “small friend” and “big friend” rules. You may be asking, “what does that mean?” For answers to your questions and a simple demonstration, contact Jen S., Amanda, Marilyn, Danielle, or Oshrat – they are now known as Posnack Abacus Mavens!! Once school begins, stop by any of the Kindergarten or 1st Grade classrooms – I guarantee you’ll be amazed by what you see.
